1. Photography and Public Relations
In the world of Public Relations, a picture really does speak a thousand words, and for this reason, getting a photograph in the press has been a daily goal of PR agencies and ‘in-house’ PR departments.
But how do you encourage the media to use a photograph that accompanies a press release? You can’t force them to use an image, but you can prepare it to their particular style - making it an easy decision to use your photography.
Being aware of the photographic process is often considered secondary to submitting a press release to the media. All too often it is assumed any photograph submitted will be used alongside a well written release. However, it is frequently the opposite….a well produced photograph can encourage a newspaper or magazine to carry your story – and a poor photograph will simply not be used, wasting your time and money.
The ‘Photography & Public Relations’ course has been provided by Craig Holmes for over seven years to both ‘in house’ and agency staff, in sectors ranging from automotive to housing.
Training takes place on your premises, at a time to suit yourselves, and lasts two hours. It provides insights as to how you can achieve more coverage for your clients or organisation – as well as why your previous efforts may have failed.
About the Course….the structure of the course means that all aspects of public relations photography are covered, from photo briefs, to dealing with newspaper photographers on photo calls, as well as working with digital images after a shoot.
The content is as follows:
- writing a photo brief
- selecting a freelance photographer
- comparing photographic styles or different media
- working with newspaper/magazine photographers
- encouraging newspapers to send a photographer
- after the photography, handling digital photographs
- the future of imagery… the media outlets, video, social media.
- a small hint at legal issues (e.g. photos of people and copyright)
- discussion time

About Each Course:
Both of the courses are delivered on your premises, at a time to suit yourselves.
The courses require participants to view a computer screen, so if you have a projector that a laptop can be connected to, that is ideal. If not, we can bring several laptops.
